On October 14, 2024, Raksha Mantri (Defense Minister) Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for a Very Low Frequency (VLF) station in Vikarabad, Telangana. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the operational readiness of the Indian Navy.
The VLF station will enable improved communication capabilities for naval operations, especially underwater, where traditional communication methods are less effective due to the attenuation of higher frequency signals. VLF signals can penetrate deep into the sea, allowing submarines and naval units to communicate securely and more effectively.
This strategic move is aligned with India’s increasing focus on national security and maritime dominance in the region. The establishment of this facility represents a significant development in the Indian Navy’s infrastructural capabilities, ensuring better coordination and operational efficiency in maritime defense.
